I was preparing myself to write my AP Bio term paper, then I remember I need a book source. Well luckily I chose the topic I had a primary resource for. I chose to write about colon cancer because my mom had twice. Beat it twice more impoartantly. So it was pretty easy for me to ask my mom if she had any books that might help me write my paper, She handed me A Reason for Hope by Michael S. Barry. There was no chance of me reading the book just to see what I could learn for my paper which is due in a few hours, but I skimmed through and checked through the table of contents. I was given simple instructions not remove anything from the book. By anything I mean some cards that look like they were sent to my mom and some papers she must have saved when she was looking for her reason for her hope. Just by reading the chapter titles I can see how much of this actually helped my mom win her battle. It shows there are different ways to handle obstacles in life and the author believes in God and talks about how God wants the reader to live. Beating cancer is a mindset. The battle has to be won mentally and emotionally. My mom certainly did twice which is why she is my hero. But this little book of one hundred some pages had to provide her with some extra insight that gave her the optimism she had. I skimmed through a part at the end that showed positive and negative ways to view cancer and the column marked positive described my mom's attitude. I can't say this book is a definite reason that my mom is still here today to celebrate in all the events of my life and her life as well as those aorund us, but I think it certainly assisted in some way. It helped her win the mental battle. One day when I get older I might ask to borrow the book to read it and see what she got out of it, then write a letter to the author thanking him for the inspirations he gave to my mom. For now, it will just be a source to my Bio term paper and a reason I had hope for my mom.
